Susan Johannes — Event coordinator
Susan came to Ad Astra seeking a boost. She had been looking for a job for nearly six months but had yet to win an interview. Ad Astra gave her a resume with a fresh and cohesive look, parallel construction and a modern typeface. Susan also wasn’t stressing her strengths or accomplishments in her original resume. After a quick consultation, Ad Astra was able to identify what makes Susan stand out from the crowd — her success at growing events, raising money and training volunteers — and put it front and center for the employer. With her new resume in hand, Susan went on four interviews within weeks.
Jessica Rice Anderson, Software consultant
Jessica sent Ad Astra a three-page resume in 8-point type that was hard to read. The resume also omitted key information, such as her complete address and phone number. The formatting was inconsistent throughout and distracted from her accomplishments. To shorten a too-long resume, Ad Astra identified areas that could be cut and instead focused on accomplishments that set Jessica apart. Ad Astra created a consistent look and layout for her resume that didn’t get in the way of her skills as a software consultant.
Christie Lawrence, Nursing student
Christie is making a career change from social services/criminal justice to nursing. She is currently looking to get her first nursing job as a CNA while she remains in school for her LPN-RN. Christie’s current job as a youth specialist in the youth detention program speaks to skills that are pivotal for nurses, but her resume didn’t tell that story. Ad Astra created a resume for Christie that pointed out her skills as an empathetic caregiver with experience in high-pressure situations.
Aaron Jones — Journalist
Aaron is a skilled and accomplished copy editor at a major metropolitan newspaper, but his resume wasn’t doing him any favors. While his qualifications summary highlighted key accomplishments, his inactive verb choices didn’t really evoke confidence in him as an editor. Aaron’s resume is typical for someone who lets his work do the talking. It lacked punch and didn’t sell him as a job candidate. Ad Astra rewrote his key qualifications to include more action verbs and formatted the resume to encourage a quick read for potential employers. Aaron also included a list of references on his original resume. With expanded information and key accomplishments, we were able to move those to a second page so he has the option to include them depending on the job posting requirements.

Because of the personal nature of job searches, Ad Astra Communications has changed the names and other identifying information of its clients.
